Miss Lee Wing Yi, Kitty

Miss Lee Wing Yi, Kitty was born in Hong Kong in 2003, and attends Good Hope Secondary School. she began playing the piano when she was 4 and the violin when she was 6. She has achieved demanding standards of music performance in a young age, in which she completed her Grade 8 Violin and Piano examination with Distinction under the Royal Academy of Music London when she was only 10 and 11 respectively. She achieved the Associate of Trinity College of Music London, equivalent to International level 4 and the first year of a undergraduate degree course, in Violin with Distinction and Piano aged 12 and 14 respectively. She had also attained the Licentiate of Trinity College of Music London in Violin, equivalent to International Level 6 and the final year of a undergraduate degree course, with Distinction. She is now continuing her studies on the Fellowship of Trinity College of Music London in Violin, equivalent to International Level 7 and the standard of a master level course. She has been receiving awards concerning her academic excellence in music and her dedication to the orchestra in both her primary and secondary years. She was taught by members of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, previously by Mr. Ringo Chan, and is now under the tutoring of Mr. Le Hoai-Nam. Besides music, she likes to read, which helped in her language skills. She has received the English Award for numerous times, and was recommended by her teachers to participate in writing competitions and as a member of the English Editorial Board. She is awarded the half Academic Scholarship for her 6 years of secondary school education.

Kitty joined Good Hope Primary School String Orchestra in her late primary years as a first violinist. She also participated in various solo events in the prestigious annual Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and got satisfying results. She became the Concertmaster in her 2nd year in the orchestra, and was invited by the school Music Panel to be the school choir pianist. She accompanied the choir in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Competition that year and won Championship. She was the only pianist praised by the adjudicators openly by having exceptional ensembleship skills. She took part in choir winners’ concerts and charity performance as a pianist as well. She was also invited to give a violin solo performance accompanied by all students of her grade in her Graduation Ceremony, and a trio performance in her Graduation Gala.

As she was promoted to Secondary Section, Kitty continued engaging passionately in music by joining the Secondary School String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra as a first violinist, and has participated in various music events. She was invited to give a number of solo concerts from 2015-2017 by the Royal Academy of Music London Alumni in Hong Kong, and was invited to perform Bach Double Violin Concerto with famous violinist, Dr. Kitty Cheung, (Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Eastman School of Music, First Violinist of the Romer Strings Quartet, Former Assistant First Violin Principal Hong Kong Sinfonietta) with the Good Hope School String Orchestra. In 2017, Kitty along with the School String Orchestra won the Gold Award in the Hong Kong Joint School Music Association Competition, and got 2nd runner-up in the finals. In the same year, they got the Silver Award in the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows. Kitty also joined the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra Summer Camp and Concert in the same year. In 2018, she was invited by the University of Cambridge to give a violin solo performaance, duet with piano and was the first violinist of the Cambridge Programmes String Quartet.

Apart from solo, Kitty have many experiences with chamber music and ensemble music. From 2013 onwards, she has participated in many ensemble competitions, performances and masterclasses given by well-known professional musicians, and were all highly praised. Ensemble formations she joined include Duo, Trio, Quartet, Quintet, etc. Besides joining these ensembles with the violin, Kitty has been a piano accompanist for many of her schoolmates who participated in the various events in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival 2017, where she has accompanied different musicians such violinists and horn players. She will be participating in the Cello Sonata (pianist) and Quartet events in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in the near future.

Besides that, she is a loyal orchestra member and has joined all orchestra performances and competitions, such as the annual New Year Concert and School Music Camps. In early 2018, she with the Symphony Orchestra has won 1st Runner-up in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the Gold Award in the Australian International Music Festival during their music tour in the summer of 2018. In the tour, they performed in the Sydney Opera House and Sydney City Recital Hall and received a masterclass at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Kitty is now Concertmaster in the Secondary School String and Symphony Orchestra, and has recently performed solo in Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows with the String Orchestra, where they achieved the Gold Award in the Competition.
