Chiayi International Band Festival 30th Anniversary Celebration – Prof. Otto Sauter Visit

The 30th anniversary celebration of Chiayi International Band Festival in Taiwan is being held from December 16, 2022 to January 1, 2023.

Organized by Chiayi Philharmonic Society in Taiwan and co-organized by OCFMK in Austria, the exchange visit by Prof. Otto Sauter, OCFMK Professional Advisor, is an international music and education exchange between Austria and Taiwan for the two institutes. The first visit is the National Chiayi University Affiliated Experimental Elementary School in the International Wind Music City. Their Chinese Orchestra played a festive opening song to welcome the OCFMK Professional Advisor, Professor Otto Sauter, who performed the Telemann Trumpet Concerto, and the Mozart’s Piano Concerto with the Orchestra Taiwan pianist, Huang Yuchen, Katherine and the orchestra. The last piece was conducted by the National Chiayi University’s Vice President and Head of Music Department, Professor Zhang Junxian, as the conductor of about 80 members. The joint performance of pianist, wind instrument and string orchestra, and all the teachers with students singing the lyrics in Chinese, English and German of “Do-re-mi” of the movie, “The Sound of Music”, with superb performance which won the full house applause.

The representative of Taiwan’s music and education exchange activities, Huang Yuzhen, gave a speech on music and art in Austria and Salzburg, providing the students better understanding of the Austrian culture. Ms. Huang Minhui, Mayor of Chiayi City which has won the honor of Taiwan’s five-star happy city and international wind music city, and the representatives of educational units delivered their speeches, and was reported by different media. Everyone is the first music education and international cultural exchange between Austrian OCFMK and Taiwan. Activities for sure.

Trumpet soloist, Prof. Otto Sauter gave a trumpet master class at the College of Music, National Taiwan Normal University with an opening speech by Mr. Liao Chia-hong, the dean of the College of Music. The master class was translated by Professor Ye Shu-han of the National Taiwan Normal University. The teaching from mouth shape to timbre and technique fully shared the inspiration and interpretation of music to college students and graduate students of the music department. Accompanied by teacher Huang Yuzhen in the master class, Prof. Suter played the Marcello Adagio, sharing with all the trumpet teachers and ended with a group photo taking.

The lunches of the itinerary were dishes of “Lin Congming”, a famous product of Chiayi Wind Music City, and those by the Hi-Lai Celebrity Cuisine, Taipei World Trade Center. The event was sponsored by O Bank Co. Ltd., Yi Yun CEO Club of the Republic of China (YYCC), Taiwan NJC Corporation, 台灣順億關係企業 and Fulgent Sun Group with its Chairman specially presented the suitcase and shoes to Prof. Sauter for his bringing of luggage from Taiwan back to Europe, and a pair of sports shoes for his convenient and comfortable walk throughout his Taiwan journey. During the exchange itinerary, there was also a Taiwan High Mountain Tea reception by the Pili International Media, as well as a visit to the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum and the office of the Chiayi City Philharmonic Foundation Office assisting the Austrian music and education exchange affairs. The European wind orchestras participation in the Chiayi International Band Festival hosted by the Chiayi City Government in every coming year is welcome.
