Miss So Cheuk Ying, Erin
Erin has always been encouraged to be an all-rounded person with courtesy and sympathy for the others since she was small. Academically, she has gained a proven record by being awarded various scholarships and awards since Primary 1 till now. She engages in various extra-curricular activities since the age of 2, for instance, Dancing, Story-Telling, Music Instruments (Piano / Double Bass / Guzheng / Sheng) etc. Amongst all, she developes a strong interest in music, which unconsciously taught her plenty precious principles for life.
She joined the Good Hope School Chinese Orchestra since S.1. She was honoured to be selected as the assistant leader in S.3, chairperson since S.4, and the supervisor in S.6. In the year 2018 and 2019, she was selected as the Master of Ceremony of a renowned music festival, Austrian – Chinese Profound Arts Festival in Austria.
Being a member of the Chinese Orchestra, she has learnt to work with people of different backgrounds and developed up her communication and co-ordination skills. On the other hand, as a host and ambassador of the prestigious music events (local and international), she has been trained to manage stress and handle crisis in unexpected situations.
Through music, she has learnt that one cannot live without hope and passion, which echoes with the school theme and core values. To deliver the spirit of Good Hope School, she believes that she should help those who are less fortunate by participating or even initiating volunteer services.
In 2017, she had enrolled in a community service called Community Leaders of Tomorrow which emphasizes on the emerging importance of Student – LED. In this programme, she was awarded the Distinguished Community Service Award and invited to a sharing organized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong.
During her participation in community services in the past few years, she had come across patients with Alzheimer’s disease, mental illness and the families of ex-mentally ill patients. Equipped with communication skills acquired in the music team, she was capable of interacting and gaining trust from the patients and their family members comfortably. However, by only expressing her sympathy to those who are underprivileged is merely conducive to their psychological well-being. Instead, she would like to empower and provide them with spiritual encouragement alongside with tailor-made treatments e.g. adopting music as a tool. To further develop in this aspect, she has planned to enter the health-related sector.
In order to have a more comprehensive understanding on the daily operations of the healthcare sector, she managed to have a 2 weeks placement in a private physiotherapy clinic in her summer holidays 2019. During the placement period, she was glad to be able to learn the theories of each treatment and the brief operation of a clinic.
With the attainment of the “Multi-faceted Excellence” Scholarship, she wishes to broaden her horizon in the healthcare sector, as well as explore potential opportunities to continue serving those who are in need and their families. Ultimately, she hopes to combine her experience and knowledge to encourage physical and mental growth in patients, enabling them to lead a more pleasant life.
